The debated Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president, Walter Nyamilandu, has come out to announce that he is standing for the 5th term for the forthcoming FAM elections claiming affiliates have told him to do so and complete ‘unfinished business’.
The announcement comes amid worries and concerns that Nyamilandu who has performed poorly in the past 15 years will ever bring any tangible change to Malawian football fraternity.
Last year, as was the case before previous two elections, Nyamilandu lied to the nation that he will not seek re-election only to dominate the elections in a way most football lovers suspected its credibility.
He said that he is obliged to come out in the open and declare his interest to contest for the position where he is likely to face his first vice president James Mwenda, Chairperson for Karonga United Alufeyo Chipanga and former vice president of FAM Moses Mkandawire.
“I have received overwhelming support and encouragement by members of the affiliates to stand again owing to the remarkable achievements that have been realized while I have been at the helm of office.” He claims.
Walter broadened that he cannot ignore the affiliates who have shown significant trust and confidence in him as the best candidate.
Many football lovers have questioned his statement saying if he already declares himself as the best candidate , will he ever accept defeat or retire if time clocks?
Social media fans have branded his leadership as shady and dictatorial following numerous contradictions associated with Football Association Of Malawi’s decisions.
