A few days after an online launch of "Mikango" song by Janta and Tigris, Conservation Music Malawi has finally released the song on radio and other media platforms.

Conservation Music Malawi in partnership with Lilongwe Wildlife Trust (LWT) released the online version on 10 August which also happens to be World Lions Day.

Meanwhile, the song has been made available to all radio stations to promote the aim of both the project and the song at Nationwide level.

According to Conservation Music Malawi Secretary Wezzie Chisenga, Mikango promotes understanding of the majestic nature of lions as a source of inspiration for human, in a bid to promote human-wildlife tolerance.

Chisenga further said the song is important because the population of lions has been declining.

He therefore noted that it is a threat to biodiversity.

"Only three populations are now believed to remain within Malawi.  This latest report considers that the IUCN designated lion conservation units of Namizimu, Mangochi, Nyika (Malawian side) and Liwonde, no longer contain lions.

"The largest of the remnant populations is mostly contained within neighbouring Zambia's Luangwa complex that includes Vwaza National Park in Malawi," Chisenga said.

Conservation Music Malawi utilizes the catalytic power of art to deliver environmental education. With the vision of building a global community that stewards the Earth, in which the memorable, emotional, and unifying power of art contributes to the balance between humankind, nature, and society.

Conservation Music Malawi works with different artists of different genres and collaborates with like –minded organizations to promote sustainable environmental management.
