Owen Hope Kanino known by his stage name as Hopsy is an artist from Zomba but currently based in South Africa.
He started doing music way back when he was very young by then he used to make music from anything around him like tables, plates or any instrument. Later on his father insisted that Hopsy should join a choir in which that enhanced his singing skills. at the age of 10, Hopsy composed a song which amazed the whole choir including everyone who came to know about it.
Since then Hopsy started treating himself as a musician and he had all the courage to do music.
Talking about challenges that he has been experiencing as an upcoming artist, he said something which is very common to most of them (upcoming artists), currently he have to handle all the expenses in his music career and because he is not having any sponsorship it has been so hard for him to penetrate into the game. Adding to that he said, so many things requires his time talking of time to work so that he can fund his music and time to do his music so this has been slowing him down here and there. Although things are this but he still promises to bring more fire with the hope that investing in music will pay him back.
Hopsy would like to get into the game not only to change the feel in the music from the listeners but also to change the mindset of people that not only good artists are available in Lilongwe or Blantyre only but every city. He said this by blaming the tribalism that has been there from people around the country mostly from the two big cities and he argues everyone to pay attention to every artist regardless of where they are coming from as long as you can see potential in them.
Hopsy would also like to add some of his flavors in the local industry, speaking to our reporter he added to say that he appreciates the way this industry is going like and that everyone is doing his or her best to make this industry so tasteful but also he believes that his music is another spice that this game needs.
"People should expect a lot from me this, am planning to come up with good audios and videos too" Hopsy said this to people who are now following him with an assurance that he is not going to disappoint them. Hopsy sees himself as a very good artist in the next two years that only his tag and voice will represent him.
His last words in an interview with MALAWI OPEN URBAN MUSIC PROMO, he said that he respects everyone in the industry including his fans and musicians in the game but he also insist to his fans that they should try to download his music online and not just asking for him to share on WhatsApp. Saying that his plans are to win awards and his fans must show love by downloading his songs because that is where the awards organizer checks the statistics.
His words to his fellow upcoming artists was that they should understand that music plays a big role to listeners and they should stick to positive music so that listeners should get some senses out it.
