A 27-year old man has died after he locked himself up in a motor vehicle on August 1st, 2019 at Chiweta hills in Rumphi district.
Rumphi Police Publicist Inspector Henry Mnjere confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Robert Milanzi of Chipo village, traditional authority Nsabwe in Thyolo district.
The publicist said that the late Mnjere was working as an assistant driver to Frank Mwangonde aged 40 of Mlale village, traditional authority Kyungu in Karonga district.
"On July 31st, 2019 the deceased and the driver were returning from Tanzania and were going to Lilongwe in a Fuso Fighter motor vehicle Registration number TO 30 but had a break down at Chiweta hills." he said.
The two agreed to hire a mechanic hence the driver went to Mzuzu to hire one and returned the following day only to find the vehicle locked.
"He found the deceased locked up in the vehicle.
He knocked several times to awake the deceased so as to open the door but surprisingly he got no response" said Mnjere.
Feeling suspicious, he reported the matter to Chiweta police unit who went to the scene and found the man dead after they broke the door open.
Postmortem conducted at Rumphi hospital revelead that death was due to suffocation.
