THE ORGANISATION:
Southern Region Water Board is a statutory corporation established under the Water Works Act, Chapter 72.01 of the laws of Malawi with the responsibility for the administration of water-areas and the development, operation and maintenance of waterworks and water-borne sewage sanitation system in the Southern Region of Malawi, except for the City of Blantyre.
POSITION: DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacant position of Director of Operations for Southern Region Water Board, tenable at its office in Zomba.
This is a challenging senior position requiring a mature and judicious person with extensive managerial experience, a strong business acumen and entrepreneurial attitude, one able to work to agreed performance targets and to move the Board towards commercial orientation.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Operations is responsible to the Chief Executive Officer to ensure smooth delivery of potable water supply services and water catchment protection activities in the Board statutory water supply areas.
She/he will be part of a Corporate Management Team of the Water Board in formulating and implementing short, medium and long term strategic plans.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The key duties and responsibilities for the Director of Operations are many and varied and include, amongst others, the following:
√Preparing Draft Bye-Laws, Quality Control and Customer Care enforcement and promotional plans and programmes for submission to management for consideration for approval as a way of ensuring that the Board has up to date strategies for ensuring water quality standards are upheld all the time
√Overseeing production and distribution of water throughout the Board’s statutory water supply areas
√Managing customer services throughout the Board to ensure customer delight and satisfaction
√Designing and implementing effective debt collection strategies for all etas customers including public institutions
√Mainstreaming health and safety in all of the Board’s operational activities
√Developing and managing water safety and drought contingency plans
√Managing and supervising water quality and environmental protection activities, projects and programmes
√Developing and implementing an effective monitoring and evaluation systems covering all operational areas
√Designing and executing strategies to reduce non-revenue water
√Designing and implementing measures to ensure efficiency in utilization of energy
√Ensuring a continuous, effective and efficient stakeholder engagement and communications.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
√Must possess at least a Bachelors’ Degree in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Water Engineering plus a post graduate qualification in Business or Operations Management and Administration.
√He/She must be registered with Malawi Board of Engineers or the relevant professional body.
√Possession of at least four (4) years’ experience in water supply and sanitation services at senior managerial position in a reputable organisation is a must.
√Candidates should be customer focused, goal driven, action oriented, innovative, a self-starter and team player.
REMUNERATION:
The successful candidate shall be offered a negotiable performance related contract for a period of three (3) years, with an attractive salary, benefits and gratuity package commensurate with seniority of the position and qualifications of the candidate.
